Typeahead Popups

Providing an intuitive typeahead for repetitive text

Making Use of your Smart Type Lists

Having lists of Characters, Locations and the other Smart Type lists is a start, but using them to save time is clearly the goal. The Typeahead popups are what make the magic happen.

When entering Characters, Scene Headings and Transitions

All you have to do is to enter a letter or two of the desired text and the Script360 editor will pop up a little box with matching entries from the appropriate Smart Type list

Take Character Names as an example

Let's assume you already have a bunch of characters in your Character Smart Type list:

Now, when you're typing your script and you go to a new Character element, let’s say you just type in the letter M. The following popup will appear just below the blinking caret:

You can do one of several things:

  • If you depress the Tab key, the character name in grey (MALE VOICE in this case) will get entered.
  • Or, you can click on any item in the popup to enter that name (MIKE or MINNIE perhaps).
  • Or, you can arrow up or down the list (using the arrow keys) to select a name and depress the Tab key to complete the entry of the highlighted name.

Remember the Auto-addition to Smart Type

As mentioned in the previous topic, if the desired name is not in the list, just type it in and hit Enter to go to dialogue and that name will be added to the Smart Type list for use when that character speaks again later in the script.
